1. What is the Imparfait?

The imparfait is used to describe:

  • Habitual actions in the past
  • Descriptions (people, weather, situations)
  • Ongoing actions

Examples:

  • Je mangeais (I used to eat / I was eating)
  • Il faisait beau (The weather was nice)

2. Formation of the Imparfait

Step 1: Take nous form (present tense)

Example:

  • nous parlons
  • nous finissons

Step 2: Remove -ons

  • parl-
  • finiss-

Step 3: Add endings

4. When to use Imparfait

A. Habit (used to)

  • Je jouais au football

B. Description

  • Il était grand
  • Il faisait froid

C. Ongoing action

  • Je lisais un livre

5. Passé Composé vs Imparfait (key concept)

Passé composé:

8. Common mistakes

1. Using wrong tense
